Adventure Mode is the main mode of Insaniquarium Deluxe. The goal of this mode is to purchase three egg pieces in every level to unlock a new pet. The player goes through five stages of four main tanks, with each tank having their own unique food chain.

Adventure mode instructions

The instructions for Insaniquarium when first starting adventure mode

Overview[]

Each level starts with already placed fish, that being two guppies in tanks 1, 2 and 3, and one breeder in Tank 4. The player's goal is to cycle through the food chain to produce the most amount of money possible to complete the level as fast as possible.

Aliens, first introduced in Tank 1-2, are the player's threat to the money-making process. The player is armed with a laser to defend their tank, which can be upgraded for a certain amount of money to deal more damage.

At the end of each tank (except Tanks 4 and 5) is a Bonus Round, where the player collects as many shells as they can in a limited time.

Bonus Adventure[]

After completing Adventure Mode for the first time, Bonus Adventure is unlocked. It is identical to Adventure Mode, however, there is now a Bonus Round at the end of every level. The time for each Bonus Round increases per level, starting at 10 seconds.

Tanks[]

Tank 1[]

This tank introduces Guppies and Carnivores.

Overview[]

Tank 1 serves as the tutorial stage, explaining various things that the player will need to remember, like how to feed fish, buy upgrades and combat aliens. Items start off fairly cheap, with only the egg piece price increasing per level. One pet slot is not used because this tank is simple.

Sylvester and Balrog debut here; the former serves as a weak enemy that is used to explain how fighting aliens works, and the latter is presented as a stronger enemy to urge the player to upgrade their weapon.

Item Prices[]

  • Baby Guppy: $100
  • Food Quality Upgrade: $200 (available from 1-2 onward)
  • Food Quantity Upgrade: $300 (available from 1-2 onward)

Tank 2[]

This tank introduces Star Potions and Starcatchers.

Overview[]

Difficulty ramps up considerably in this tank as the player must learn that some fish depend on others to survive, outside of a predatorial sense; Star Potions must be fed to Guppies, who become Star Guppies that drop stars that Starcatchers eat.

Gus and Destructor debut here. The former is the only alien in the game that cannot be harmed by the player's weapon, and instead must be defeated using food. The latter is one of two enemies in the game that fire projectiles which the player must destroy by shooting them. This tanks introduces alien signatures that can be used to identify the type of alien before it enters the tank.

Tank 3[]

This tank introduces Guppycrunchers and Beetlemunchers.

Overview[]

Like Tank 2, the best money-making fish in this stage is dependent on another. Guppycrunchers release beetles that crawl up the tank, which Beetlemunchers use as their sustenance. Guppycrunchers on their own provide little money; their beetles are worth only $150, which leaves the player only $50 in profits, should it release only one beetle before it gets hungry again. However, Beetlemunchers are much more lucrative, dropping pearls that grant the player $500 when clicked.

Psychosquid and Ulysses debut here, and are some of the toughest aliens in the game; Psychosquid moves very quickly, has plenty of health and can regenerate if the player is careless. Ulysses can fire energy balls that instantly kill any fish they travel through, if the player primes them by shooting them. On top of all this, laser upgrades now cost double what they did in the previous two tanks, making combating aliens on their own much more difficult.

Item Prices[]

  • Baby Guppy: $100
  • Food Quality Upgrade: $200
  • Food Quantity Upgrade: $300
  • Guppycruncher: $750
  • Beetlemuncher: $2000 (available from 3-2 onward)
  • Laser Upgrade: $2000 (available from 3-2 onward)
  • Egg Pieces/Pets:

Tank 4[]

This tank introduces Breeders and Ultravores.

Overview[]

As a kind of expansion to Tank 1, this Tank reprises Carnivores as a secondary fish. However, the option to buy baby Guppies has been replaced with the option to buy baby Breeders, which, once grown, do not drop money but instead occasionally spawn baby Guppies that the Carnivores rely on.

The Ultravore also makes its first appearance in Tank 4-2; it eats Carnivores, and drops treasure chests worth $2000, more than any other money drop in the game. However, it is also more prone to being killed as its hitbox is much bigger than any others.

Bilaterus debuts here, and is quite possibly the most dangerous alien in the game. Bilaterus has two heads that must be destroyed separately, and any segment of his tail, as well as his active head, can eat fish by touching them. While slow, his area of effect can potentially be greater than any other aliens'. To make things worse, laser upgrades now cost an incredible $5000, making combating aliens even harder.

Item Prices[]

  • Baby Breeder: $200
  • Food Quality Upgrade: $200
  • Food Quantity Upgrade: $300
  • Carnivore: $1000
  • Ultravore: $10000 (available from 4-2 onward)
  • Laser Upgrade: $5000 (available from 4-2 onward)
  • Egg Pieces/Pets:
    • 4-1: $3000 (Unlocks Nimbus)
    • 4-2: $25000 (Unlocks Amp)
    • 4-3: $50000 (Unlocks Gash)
    • 4-4: $75000 (Unlocks Angie)
    • 4-5: $99999 (Proceeds to Tank 5)

Tank 5[]

Tank 5 is not a real stage, and only serves as the arena for the fight against Cyrax. It is populated by every pet (excluding Angie, Presto and the Bonus Pets).

Overview[]

The player is immediately placed into Tank 5, unable to purchase anything. They are given a Level 8 laser and are tasked with destroying Cyrax while keeping their pets alive.

Cyrax, as the final boss of the game, has the most health of any alien, but cannot attack your pets directly, and instead employs Mini-Sylvesters to eat your pets. They die in one hit, but move fairly quickly and are invincible for a short time after spawning.

Cyrax can also summon any alien during the fight, with Sylvester and Balrog in a combined attack and all others attacking separately. This is the only time Gus can be harmed by laser fire outside of Sandbox.

The player must save as many pets as they can. If they lose all of their pets, the dialog box "Game Over: Oops! All of your pets have died!" (which is the regular Game Over dialog box but with the word "pet" replacing the word "fish") will display and they will be forced to go back to main menu by clicking "Click to Continue" button. One can restart the level after reverting back to main menu due to clicking the "Click to Continue" button on the Game Over dialog box by clicking Adventure Mode button. So long as the player has one pet by the time Cyrax is defeated, the battle is won.

When Cyrax is defeated, the final egg is made available, and grants the player Presto. The player also earns 5,000 shells for defeating Cyrax.

Item Prices[]

  • Egg: Free (only available once Cyrax is defeated) (Unlocks Presto)

Ending[]

Upon defeating Cyrax, the player is treated to a small cutscene where they are told that the alien forces have been thwarted and that aquariums are safe once more. Following this, Angie revives all the pets that the player lost during the final fight. If the player did not lose any of their pets, the game will praise their skill, jokingly prompting them to tell the game how they managed to do so. Afterwards, the game will proceed to the curtain call where all fish, pets and aliens present themselves one last time before the credits roll as Guppies of various colors swim across the screen.
