Vert the Skeleton is the skeletal remains of a fish. He drops gold coins just like a large guppy, but does not need to be fed.
Behavior[]
Vert drops a gold coin every six seconds without needing to be fed, making him useful only in the early parts of the game where fast money is helpful. Later on, his usefulness drops substantially.
Vert produces an average of $5.83/sec, which is inferior to all other direct money producing pets (Niko $6.25/sec, Shrapnel $8.33/sec but dangerous). However, at the start of each level, players need money quickly, so he might find some use during that time.
In Virtual Tank, he drops gold shells which have a value of two shells. If the player has extra pet slots for screensaver mode, Vert can be favorable because, unlike Niko and Shrapnel, his money can be picked up by Clyde and Stinky.

VERT THE SKELETON |
Some people are afraid to use VERT because they think that he is an undead product of dart occult forces and therefore may turn against them at any time. This is simply not true. Obviously, a bad skeleton would not give you gold coins. He would drop rat poison. |
Trivia[]
- The name "Vert" is likely derived from the word "vertebrae," which are bones that make up the spinal column.
- It may also come from 'verde', meaning 'green'. Throughout the ages, green pigments have often been deadly, from Scheele's green (which shed particles of its arsenic ingredient) to the green glow of uranium paint.
